5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Intro to the Dentist, September 12, 2012
By MB Robinson (New Haven, CT)
I recently checked out all the books our local library had on visiting the dentist, as my 2 1/2-year-old is terrified of both dentists & doctors and I wanted to prepare her for an upcoming visit. I wouldn't say this book is ideal for a 2 1/2-year-old preparing for a standard checkup, as at the end it discusses drilling cavities and I think this will only stress the little ones out more. But you can skip over those pages, if necessary. Every other page starts with a question like, "Why does the dentist wear a mask and gloves?" and "Will going to the dentist hurt?" and then answers the questions in a matter-of-fact, but reassuring way. The book is full of nice photographs of cute kids and smiling dentists. They took a stab at being multicultural, but most of the people in the photos are white and most of the dentists are male. Overall, a good book for preparing a child for a trip to the dentist.
