5.0 out of 5 stars.  Understanding Dental Materials, September 24, 2002
By Chester T. Coccia
This book should be required reading for every freshman and junior in dental school. Although the text can be very technical, digesting the contents of this book enhances the dental clinician to intelligently evaluate all new materials from a scientific standpoint and not from the manufacturer's claims.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  For Engineers Not Dentists, March 31, 2000
By A customer
The latest edition of the this time-honored dental undergraduate text is a bit too technical. This book contains a lot more specific information than a dental practitioner needs but is a good reference for teachers and researchers. The topics are organized by material types and properties rather than by their dental applications. There is an underlying feeling of bias, and the focus is on academic definitions and theoretical mechanisms rather than knowledge that can be easily applied in the clinic.
