The aetiology of mumps described in the ancient texts as phlegm fire lodged in the shaoyang that refuses to disperse. Since the shaoyang has an external/internal relationship with the jueyin and the foot jueyin encircles the genitals, mumps may be accompanied by testicular involvement.
Chinese physicians have observed this phenomenon thousands of years ago and provided the above explanation. Not only that, an effective treatment of the conditions using acupuncture has been found.
In the 1980s, the authors of this book Yan Culan and Zhu Yunlong wrote a book on acupuncture in the treatment of injuries. This book expands on that, giving acupuncture prescriptions for a wider variety of conditions commonly seen in both internal and surgical conditions. Topic covered include:
Dermatoses & Infectious Sores Animal Bites Orthopedics and Trauma Joint Conditions Anal Diseases Tumours Postoperative and Miscellaneous conditions
Each condition is given TCM interpretation as well as Western diagnosis. Hence, different sets of prescriptions are sometimes given for the same medical conditions when their TCM syndromes and causes differ. Syndrome differentiation is discussed in some detail, giving the student some understanding of important concepts in TCM treatment and diagnosis.
At $29.95, this is probably one of the cheapest books on clinical acupuncture and moxibustion. It is almost the price of a Chinese book. For students who don't read Chinese, this book is probably one of the most economical choices.
