I like having this resource. the pictures are clear, the descriptions complete. I appreciate having the muscle groups listed in the back, the sample routines, and the corresponding yoga pose.

I really like that this book starts with a history about Thai Massage and its roots. Once you get into the practice, there are great descriptions of how to perform each movement as well as pictures to help you put it all together.

Decent textbook..., April 23, 2013

I am a massage student who is interested in Thai Massage and recently started reading a half dozen different Thai Massage books. This is the only one I know of specifically aimed at being a textbook for massage schools and I think it is an easier book to learn from for those of us with that background because of that. It looks like it does a decent job overall and considers Thai Massage in more depth than the "applied yoga" presentation that seems common. It seems to cover most of what I've personally found valuable from Thai Massage, however one major omission I've noticed is the lack of even any mention that I've seen of herbal compresses, which are one of my favorite aspects of Thai Massage.
I recommend _Encyclopedia of Thai Massage_ as the single most comprehensive book I've looked at on Thai Massage. If you only want to get one book on Thai Massage get that one and not this one. The other book I've really enjoyed is _A Myofascial Approach to Thai Massage_, which also unfortunately does not mention herbal compresses and does not even try to be comprehensive, but I appreciate the author's perspective of aiming only to provide the deepest possible relaxation for clients. I think those two and this textbook seem like a good combination.
