An Indispensable Resource, August 19, 2013
By Michael K. Kivinen

This book is an indispensable resource for clinical hypnotherapists. Dabney M. Ewin, M.D. has taught hypnotherapy to Tulane University medical students for over 40 years and Bruce N. Eimer, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist. Both were friends and students of the late David B. Cheek, M.D. who pioneered the use of ideomotor finger signals as a hypnotherapeutic technique. [Cheek himself collaborated with other giants in the field of hypnotherapy on two other invaluable texts: Clinical Hypnotherapy with Leslie M. LeCron (1968) and the monumental Mind-Body Therapy with Ernest L. Rossi (1988).] If, like me, you've read those books but still wanted more explicitly detailed instruction in ideomotor techniques, you will welcome this volume. The authors provide in-depth discussion of each of LeCron's "Seven Most Common Factors Causing Emotional Troubles and Illnesses" along with guidelines for addressing them in hypnotherapy. The illustrative case examples and therapy session transcripts are well-chosen and convincing, and the authors' experience, wisdom, and compassion are evident on every page. This bona fide "how-to manual" would enhance any clinical hypnotherapist's library. Transpersonal hypnotherapist Thomas Zinser, Ed.D., whose "Soul-Centered Healing" approach requires the use of ideomotor finger signals, recommends this book to therapists who attend his workshops. It brings to life the practical implications of the aforementioned Rossi and Cheek volume. If you buy it, you will use it!

Bruce Eimer Phd and Dabney Ewin MD make a great team. This will be (no strike that) IS a classic in clinical hypnosis. It is a must have book for your library and a must have tool for your clinical hypnosis bag. Cheek's 7 keys is explained in detail with clinical correlations. Hypnoanalysis can greatly speed up your understanding of the patient's symptom cause and allow you a great way to affect changes.

Great book!, October 10, 2009

I don't usually read a hypnosis book from cover to cover but I did this one. I'm a practical hypnotherapist of 28 years who still likes to be shown how to do things. This book does that in a very straight forward manner. Hypnoanalysis using ideomotor movements is an intriguing and extremely useful hypnotic method. I appreciate the author's willingness to show us how to use it. I've used it in the past but will certainly be better at it having read this book.
