Compact top tele-zoom lens with macro 1:2 function. A high mechanical quality combined with excellent optical qualities are the characteristic features of this telephoto lens. This Di lens can be used on a digital APS-C sized or full frame camera. This lens ideally complements standard kit lenses. A 'Macro Switchover' mechanism allows a minimum focus distance of 0.95m within the focal length range of 180-300mm. You can fill the entire frame with subjects of apx. 5 x 7cm size, at a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2, ideal for capturing images of flowers, insects and objects of similar size. With its 300mm tele-end the lens guarantees ultimate photo fun. The designation “Di” (Digitally Integrated Design) marks a generation of lenses, which have been specially adapted to the higher requirements of digital SLR cameras (APS-C and full frame). Please note: The 70-300mm is available with a built-in motor for the Nikon D40, D40X and D60 (Model A17NII) from apx. February 2008. The A17N model which had been available up until February 2008 is only compatible with the D40/D40X/D60 in the MF mode due to the fact it doesn´t have a built-in motor.

Good entry level telescopic lens, December 05, 2015

Good entry level telescopic lens. Great telescopic lens for its price. You arent going to get the crystal clear shots of a hawk diving that you see in Natl Geo, but for photographing elk in the valley, or a hawk on a fencepost, it does pretty good. Pictures are pretty sharp up to 220-240mm, then things start losing sharpness as you zoom in further. Lens does great in good light, but only average in low light. For the price it is a good buy, its not a purchase I regret and its certainly a lens I'd recommend.

great beginner telephoto lens for the price! focuses well and fast. used it to take pics from my seat sec123, rowdd in centurylink nov 15 seattle seahawks versus Arizona cardinals w/c is about 1000 feet. pics were focused, clear and w/ telephoto lens you have to deal w/ hands shaking and there was none. carried two lenses, 18-55 and the tamron 70-300. 300 zoom from my seat was like taking a family pic of 12 from a 20 feet distance approximately.

No brainer, October 03, 2015

Great buy. When my canon 200 mm telephoto had the dreaded error 99. It would cost $200 to fix it. This lens is a 300mm with macro capability for much less money. A no brainier.

The value of this lens can be unsurpassed. The price point is very reasonable for a beginner photographer or even a spare lens for someone more experienced. I love the options this lens offers (macro) and great quality shots. Nothing but good things to say about this purchase.

Great for the price, August 25, 2015

Great product for the price. I am able to take photos from far away. Has a good focus. Of course the quality isn't as crisp as a $700+ dollar lens but hey.. You get what you pay for. It's great for recreational photography. I have photos with a $500 lens and photos with this lens and people make the same comments on my blog for both photos.
