This Sigma Macro 50mm F2.8 EX DG is a standard macro lens that is ideal for shooting the “small world’ around us that exists virtually unseen. A macro lens is one which will focus on a subject close enough to render it “life-size” on the image plane in your camera. It also has a “flat” field” front lens element so that it can shoot images of flat objects such as artwork or postage stamps and be tack sharp all the way across the image. So don’t miss the tiny insects, flowers of the world or the details in a stamp or coin collection or a piece of embroidery all of which are seldom noticed but offer a fascinating world if you look closely enough. Capture them with the Sigma Macro 50mm F2.8 EX DG.

Very useful and very good lens, September 14, 2016

Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens for Canon SLR Cameras (Discontinued by Manufacturer) Good quality lens, indispensable for general use and for macro. It is a macro lens from 50mm focal length that on full format is a standard, normal lens, but capable of macro 1:1. Much more convenient because the lens macro now on sale have focal length about 100mm and are not multi-purpose such as this. Excellent when hiking in nature, when photographing of all, but it could happen to take a macro. Unfortunately, it is discontinued for Canon and other, but recommend buying the latest available lenses.

This lens is the greatest!, May 27, 2016

I love, love , love this lens! First of all. the feel of this lens in your hand is sublime...it is a soft matte finish; it was the first thing that caught my attention. The color rendition of the shots are very bright, it has served me well to photograph butterflies, bugs and flowers, and other macro subjects even without a tripod - just bump up the shutter speed, to compensate for any movement. This lens works by setting the aperature on the highest f-Stop setting on the lens itself, and doing a manual focus - this is what I prefer anyway. The light meter works, and f-Stops will show on your screen - then you use the dial on the camera body to select the f-Stop or shutter speed you want. You can shoot in aperature, shutter or manual priority. I use mine with a Nikon D5300 camera. Mine came with a hood, has never shown any dark edges on any of my shots.

A great macro and portrait lens Sigma 70mm f2.8 EX DG, November 14, 2015

Great lens! I use this on my Pentax K-50. It's not a 50mm as the review headline says though while writing this, it's a 70mm. It takes wonderful macro images and I use it quite frequently for that. My images can be seen here: alittleplaceontheweb.com if you would like to see examples. I just used it as a portrait lens and it worked wonderfully for that as well. Very happy with the quality of this lens.

The pics were not great, not even good., November 02, 2015

It doesn't come with any manual. So, if you are a beginner, good luck. It shoots in Automatic mode but the bokeh is just too much. All my pics look like they're shrouded in edge fog. I looked online for any guidance and no luck how to shoot in manual mode with my Nikon D7000. if someone knows how, please let me know and I'll change the feedback.
