Product Description:

Sigma’s Macro 70mm F2.8 EX DG is a large aperture medium macro lens suitable for shooting the smaller things in our world that exist virtually unseen. A macro lens is one which will focus on a subject close enough to render it “life-size” on the image plane in your camera. It also has a “flat” field” front lens element so that it can shoot images of flat objects such as artwork or postage stamps and be tack sharp all the way across the image. This Sigma Macro 70mm F2.8 is ideally suited for taking pictures of insects or other small creature where a closer approach to the subject would scare them away. This greater distance also allows the photographer more flexibility in lighting the subject with natural light reflectors.

Three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide optimum color correction and sharpness throughout the entire zoom range and Super Multi-layer coating reduces flare & ghosting. A floating internal focus system enables a minimum shooting distance of 10.1 inches enabling ability to shoot with critical sharpness regardless of distance. So don’t miss the tiny insects, flowers of the world or the details in a stamp or coin collection or a piece of embroidery all of which are seldom noticed but offer a fascinating world if you look closely enough. Capture them with the Sigma Macro 70mm F2.8 EX DG.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  High Quality lense, December 04, 2014
By Maneiser
Prior to ordering that lense I read countless reviews. It is true. That lense delivers excelenty photographs in case you consider some peculiarities. Actually it's not peculiarities handling the lense, but actually it is up to the user behind the camera.
Focussing in the near is a waiting game. The motor is useless if you have no time to focussing a motive. Better you decide using the "good old focussing by hand".
That lense is also a very good normal lense for indoors and for portraits.
My camera is a SONY-SLT A77, which by itself is pretty complex. I am convinced, that I will get far better pictures with this lense, if -one day- I have a fully perspective of my camera and it's options combined with that great lense.-

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Stunning Performer!, August 04, 2014
By A Customer (Florida, USA)
My first Sigma lens since purchasing a SD1 Merrill and glad I did. This lens was purchased for studio use regarding product and still life photography and the results have been excellent. I would purchase this lens again. The sharpness and color results while shooting products/still life under studio lights at f/8 are stunning!
