Children's Books: WHO NEEDS TEETH? (Adorable Rhyming bedtime Story/Picture Book About Caring for Your Teeth, for Beginner Readers, Ages 2-8) Colorful children's rhyming book about a girl who sees different animals and knows they need teeth or they'd not be able to eat their favorite foods. She then selects her favorite foods and knows she'd not be able to eat them if she had no teeth. Good book for promoting a child to take care of their own teeth. Other works by the author are excerpted at the end.

I love that this book tells why we should do something important (take care of our teeth) in such a whimsical fashion. The illustrations are bright, happy and fun. The author tells us a smile is like a postcard. I think that's my favorite line of this sweet book.

TOOTH TRUTHS, December 11, 2014

I have read many of the Sally Huss books for young children; this is one of her best. Most children are not particularly mindful about taking care of their teeth. This book makes it so easy for them to understand their importance and the necessity of care. In adorable rhymes, Huss explains why some common favorite animals of children need teeth to live. Then she moves on to the child to make things personal. Without teeth, we couldn't eat many of our favorite foods like peanut butter and jelly, birthday cake or cookies. At the end of the book Huss shows the importance of teeth in smiling and making friends. I love her analogy of a smile being like a postcard that lets others know how you feel. For all these reasons, we need to take care of our teeth.
Bright illustrations and perky rhymes with a multicultural emphasis help the young child get the message clearly. Parents, dentists, librarians and teachers of young children need to include this book in their collections.
