(Grade 4 and Up) "A book that will help address the fears, discomfort, and embarrassment of wearing braces and other dental appliances. Lee describes various procedures involved in orthodontic care from the taking of impressions to the removal of the hardware. Discussions about the assorted accidents that can happen, how various appliances work, and how the doctor develops a plan of treatment are also included. The text is well written and reassuring, reminding readers that treatments are available to reduce or eliminate pain. Although the black-and-white line drawings of how various braces and splints work are clear enough, patients will probably receive better illustrative material in their dental offices. Nonetheless, this a good overview of what lies ahead in the months after getting those first brackets." -Christine A. Moesch, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, NY
