Growing up, I had braces four different times, along with two jaw surgeries. Because of trauma to my mouth, I have also had almost every dental procedure possible— and I would do it all again. I understand the value of a great smile. It has given me great confidence to enter the world. I have found it so life-changing that I want to help others achieve the same. To accomplish this, after four years of college, then four years of dental school, I completed a three-year orthodontic residency. I decided to write this book to help you understand everything involved in getting a great smile, a perfect smile, a healthy smile— to Rock Your Smile. I have included topics, terms, and procedures that I believe to be necessary and helpful, using a doctor’s knowledge base and explaining it from a patient’s perspective. I hope you enjoy it and find it helpful! Author Information Dr. Boyd O. Whitlock III DDS received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. He received his dental degree from University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in Oklahoma City, OK. After dental school, Dr. Whitlock completed a one-year hospital general practice residency at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. Following his hospital residency, Dr. Whitlock received his Masters in orthodontics from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Kansas City, MO. Dr. Whitlock grew up in Oklahoma. His dad was a physician (Dr. Boyd O. Whitlock Jr.) and his mom was an RN (Myrna Whitlock). Growing up in a medical family, he has been surrounded by healthcare his whole life. He wore braces four times because of abnormal jaw growth (maybe didn't wear his retainer exactly as he was suppose to, either) and had two jaw surgeries. Because of this, his passion has been to continue to find ways to reduce the time in braces, make it a more enjoyable experience, improve a person's overall health, and treat everyone as a member of his Whitlock Ortho family. An innovator and educator, Dr. Whitlock lectures to both doctors and orthodontic staff on the most advanced orthodontic treatment philosophies and techniques available. Dr. Whitlock is a faculty member and Clinical Advisory Board member at suresmile (an advanced 3D CadCam planning software and robotically bent orthodontic arch wires). He has also lectured and advised on accelerated treatment. Dr. Whitlock is a member of numerous professional organizations both locally and nationally.
