More than a picture book, The Lost Tooth, is an educational book that is filled with facts. The reader is introduced to a different animal on each page with "teeth" facts cleverly incorporated. As a bonus, the book also contains photographs and hippo jokes. The bright illustrations make this a fun and entertaining book. A great book for parents and teachers.

Cute story about a baby hippo losing a tooth, June 08, 2015

.M. Vela and Mary Esparza-Vela's new picture book, "The Lost Tooth," is a cute story of a baby hippo who discovers one morning that he's lost a tooth. He starts retracing his steps on a search for his missing tooth. Along the way, he meets many other animals and asks them if they've seen his tooth. Each of them tells him how many teeth they have as young animals and how many they'll have as adults. But no one has seen the baby hippo's lost tooth. The last animal he meets has a great suggestion for the little hippo. He doesn't find his lost tooth, but he does get some compensation, which provides a funny ending.
The artwork by Visual Myths is cheerful, upbeat, and fun. Children will be entertained by the pictures as they hunt along with the baby hippo for his lost tooth. Recommended for ages 5 to 8. Younger children can follow the story through the expressive illustrations.
At the end of the story are some hippo facts and photographs of a newborn hippo and a hippo with its mother. There are also some hippo jokes for the older, independent reader. This is a story that all children can relate to--about losing a tooth.
