5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good stuff, October 26, 2009
By S. Lin
I've only used this once to get my fixed gear cog off the hub and it worked well. I was amazed at how large and heavy duty the thing actually is (that's a good thing).

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Broke easily, April 18, 2010
By O. Gueorguiev (Montreal)
This chain whip broke after about three uses. The pin connecting the rod to the chain simply gave way. Shoddy construction is the likely cause. Wouldn't recommend this

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Feels cheap, but gets the job done, May 6, 2010
By smatsushima1
This chain whip definitely feels cheaper than any Park Tool I've owned but because I hardly use a chain whip, I'm not complaining.

I recommend it to the home mechanic who doesn't use a chain whip too frequently.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works well, January 23, 2010
By Arturo Donate (Tallahassee, FL)
I used it while changing drivetrain components on my bike, and it worked beautifully! This was my first time doing this kind of job, and I had absolutely no problems with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Avenir 1/2" x 3/32" Chain Whip - Quality at a reasonable price, October 19, 2010
By Badotz (Orange, CA United States)
I geared up for my morning ride only to discover the rear wheel had cracked, and a spoke pulled the rim apart. I figured I should replace the front wheel, too - if I didn't, it would have failed as soon as I had installed the new rear wheel. I bought an Easton EA50 Wheelset (from another source) at a Very Reasonable Price.

I had a freewheel tool, but I discovered I also needed a chain whip. A quick visit to amazon.com turned up an array of whips; I settled on the Avenir based upon price and customer reviews. I am very happy with my decision.

The whip is hefty, and dead simple to use. I spun off the freewheel in a trice.

While Alton Brown may view this tool as a "single-tasker", sometimes there is only one tool that will do the job. A chainwhip is such a tool, and you can spend more than I did for the same thing.

Save your money, and go with Avenir - you will be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great price and it works the same as expensicve one, April 20, 2012
By PK9394 (Big Apple)
As a home mechanic, I services my own bikes and all of my kids and wife's bikes all the time. For a chain whip, I can't justify myself to spend $20 on the park tool's SR1 and the SR2 is way too much! The SR1 look very plastic! As of the price, this Avenir chain whip is almost half of the cost compare to SR1. I give it a shot. The build quality is ok, I don't use them everyday but in the first use, it did what it did. The handle have a nice grip. 2 comments complain the chain fall off after first use. It didn't happen on mind. I services 4 cassettes off and on for the first time use, everything stays in place! Still have to see for longer time usage. As for right now, this is a good tool with a great price!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great!, March 19, 2012
By Cesar
This chain whip is what it is, a tool to remove and install a track cog. It's very inexpensive and works really well. My LBS charges $5 just to switch cogs, that is already half of what this tool costs. If you are looking for a chain whip, this is it. I also want to mention that its very heavy duty, it looked cheap-looking when I got it, but it is actually very sturdy and should last me a lot.

The chain whip was used to remove a 12 year old cassette from my road bike. It feels solid and was very simple to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  chain whip, July 3, 2011

I've used it several times and has worked great. Seems reliable and rugged enough to last a while, provided it isn't abused or misused.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Absolutely terrible quality ... how do people recommend this?, February 14, 2011
By TurboDream17
I purchased this chain whip to remove a fixed cog ... on my first attempt, I literally bent the entire wrench with my bare hands while trying to pry off a cog. Total crap.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great, September 21, 2009
By William J. Kelly
Works great! At first I thought I might be able to just use a piece of the old chain to hold the cassette still, boy was I wrong, with this tool it was a snap.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Try a different one, October 28, 2011
By TheVincentHRD
I got mine today and first use it bent numerous times using only my hands/arms, the cog I am trying to remove has only been on there for about 6 months. I am still unable to get the cog off and will have to buy another different chain whip in order to complete the job. I wonder if I can get Amazon to take this thing back?
