5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good value, August 16, 2009
By Old Vic (Florida)
This computer is about half the price of equivalent devices, but it works very well. It's display is very clear even in bright sunlight. It's functions appear to be identical to Schwinn's wired units. Although it costs twice as much as wired units ($9 more) the wireless mode eliminates messy wires as well as unreliable electrical contacts.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Waste of Time and Money., January 25, 2010
By DieselDave (Huntington Beach, Ca.)
I purchased two of these computers, one for me, and one to give as a gift. Both units malfunction in several ways. Save your money and time and do not purchase this product. This unit is worthless if you ride at night due to interference from your bike light. If you put your light on flashing it will make the computer indicate 70 mph, if you use the light on steady beam it will indicate a much slower speed. Both I and the person I gave the other computer to have tried in vain to mount the computers and lights in different configurations as to not have interference and we are both mechanics. We have since discovered that anything electronic will interfere with the function of the computer, such things as stop light signals, laptops, and radios. I would go into the other shortcomings of this bike computer but I have already wasted enough time on this unit. Stay away from it.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Product, November 9, 2009
By Laura A. Hoffman (Tampa, FL)
Love the Bike Computer...great price.
Only draw back was the receiver cover did not easily come of (could have been a defect) Had to pry it off- not easy twist off to insert the battery.

Great tool- works perfectly.

Update: 1.5 years later...I now need to buy a new one...the reset buttons are not working. Most functions were very accurate except the max average speed. Most often said I was going 87 mph. yeah - I don't think that was happening....

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Right button malfunctions, September 5, 2009
By John M. Wong (Buffalo Grove, IL USA)
Very easy to install on my bicycle but found out it did not work properly. A malfunctioning right button on the computer kept me from obtaining all functions. I replaced it the Cateye CC-RD300W Strada wireless bicycle computer which functions correctly.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  JUNK, August 10, 2010
By M. Jefferson (Philla)
I ordered this thinking that with that name brand it should be pretty good. Boy was I wrong. Right out of the box the display didn't work. It kept fading in and out, so I figured it was batteries and mounted it anyway. You need to have the transmitter no more than 1mm away, 1mm. come on, thats almost impossible without them hitting each other as the wheel spins, and on a mountain bike with the front forks you have on them, well you have to make some kind of spacer to move it closer to the wheel. Did all of that, bought new batteries, installed them , and no change. The display kept fading in and out, and after 1 , 6 mile ride it shut off and never came back on. It now sits on my counter top while I decide if I want to pay shipping to send it back, or just throw it the hell in the trash. In my opinion, dont waste your money. They say you get what you pay for, I could imagine what the $7.00 ones would have been like. If your are really bent on getting something like this, go to a bike shop where you can talk to the sales person and see what you are buying and what their return policy is

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good, simple bike computer at a great price, May 4, 2010
By Brian Y. (NY, USA)
PROS:
-Reasonably priced
-Wireless
-Nice, easy to read display

CONS:
-Some interference, but not a huge deal
-Transmitter made poor battery contact, might be just the one I received
-Magnet casing made of plastic, a bit flimsy, and sticks out a lot

Conclusion: Great for the price, but expect to spend a little time making proper adjustments so that it works with your bike setup.

I bought this bike computer to replace a very old, even simpler bike computer that I had made by another company. The larger display makes reading the numbers much easier. One small difference I noticed between my previous wired one and this wireless one is that it takes a little longer for the display to show a change in speed (e.g. I will be climbing a hill and it will read something like 9.7mph and as I start going much, much faster down the hill, it will take a few seconds before it reads 21.3mph.

Like other users, I have received a transient interference that causes my bike computer to register a speed of about 74mph. It really doesn't make much of a difference except for the fact that my "max speed" is not accurate. The fact that this is wireless (and reasonably cheap) means that you have to accept some interference.

One of two problems that I have been having is the transmitter - for some reason it doesn't always make proper contact with the battery, meaning that whenever I go out for a ride, sometimes no signal will be transmitted. So my mileage isn't always accurate and I would have to stop mid-ride to adjust the battery. And yes, I checked the battery. It is fully charged. The problem seems to be in the housing. It isn't a big deal enough to return it but more of a nuisance. The second problem is the magnet - it says it will fit round or flat spokes, but if you attach it to just one it can be a bit flimsy and looks as if a bump would send it flying. I tried attaching it to two spokes, which worked, but the plastic looked flimsy and was already bending. The magnet also stuck out a lot, causing it to scrape the transmitter every time it passed by. I could have avoided this by moving the magnet up, but then I could not attach it to two spokes. I ended up using my old magnet, which has a metal casing and a lower profile, preventing it from scraping the transmitter.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Many features at a bargain price!, January 24, 2010
By David A. Gantz
I have had the Schwinn Wireless bike computer for a month and am very pleased with it. The installation and calibration instructions and execution were reasonably straight-forward. The computer itself has the usual features, including time, total miles, trip miles, trip time, maximum speed and average speed, with a large readout for miles/km/hr. It also has an unusual feature: it can be set to "scan" whereby elapsed time, trip distance, average speed and maximum speed rotate automatically in 3-4 second intervals. This means you don't have to touch the computer on most rides to get up-to-date info on these four key functions, which to me is both a convenience and a safety benefit. In Tucson at least, there seems to be no interference from traffic signals, a problem I have had with some computers in the past.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Decent cycle computer for price, April 20, 2011
By J. Harris (Lake Stevens, WA USA)
After picking up cycling again for the first time in 20 years, I wanted a cyclometer/bike computer to track my rides and provide a performance guide. This gadget is a decent unit at this price range. As others have mentioned it is somewhat prone to interference mainly when not attached to the bike but the only issue I have had on the bike is recording of all time max speed which is pretty much incorrect on every ride; but that's not an important stat for me anyway. Distance, time, and average speed work fine and match independent calculations. The unit stops counting when the bike stops and resumes as soon as the wheels move again. I reset my trip counter after each ride, otherwise the next ride will add on to the previous one. The total mileage on the odomoeter does not have to reset each time so it keeps track of cumulative distance. Installation is simple - some may consider the wire tie attachment for the mounting brackets to be a bit cheap looking but that's not a concern for me. I may upgrade in the future as I pick up my riding but for now, at this price point, I'm very happy with this unit.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't buy it, May 28, 2010
By Charles Stewart
It works great, BUT I left it on my bike while I was in the store and the cars that were parked near my bike and going by, interfered with the computer, when I came back out of the store the speedometer was reading 70 mph and it had put 13 miles on the odometer,
I ended up purchasing a wired Schwinn model

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't use with a light., March 25, 2011
By Bham Boy (Bellingham, WA USA)
If you're riding with a light (as you should be either day or night if you're in traffic) then forget this one. When I turn my flashing light on, this unit immediately jumps to 18 mph and stays around that area until I turn off the light.

If they planned this for road use, it seem incredible to me that it would not be engineered to deal with electrical impulses.

I guess we know now why it's so cheap. If you plan on using this for commuting or touring, then go find a product that works.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  you get what you pay for, February 18, 2011
By roy
i dont expect much from a computer in this price range, i just like having it so i can log my rides. ive seen the speed jump around at times going from one extreme to another, this behavior isnt uncommon in these types of units, calibrating the wheel sensors is very touch and go. i think this is a good enough computer for most amateur riders.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't waste your money, September 26, 2010
By gb1a (boston)
Of all the things I have ever bought this ranks on the bottom of the list

- almost impossible to get working (never did figure out how to read distance)
- horrible directions
- very poor display for anything other than speed
and then the clip to hold the thing was not good and the whole unit fell off the bike

save your money

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Mine lasted less than a year, July 11, 2010
By djackmac
The left button on mine stopped working recently after less than a year. The computer was pretty good while it lasted, but I could not zero the trip ODO without having to re-enter the tire size, miles/km, etc. every time which seems pretty lame. This was reported by other reviewers too. This was my first bike computer, and I'll probably get another but not Schwinn. It was imported by Pacific Cycle; their website is useless.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product- easy to install, June 13, 2010
By For2n8john (Chicago)
Very happy with this cycle computer. It was easy and quick to install (about 3 minutes). My wife is becoming more of a regular and she likes to see her progress in being able to ride longer, faster and seeing other stats is motivating. The price ($15) was outstanding compared to other wireless computers.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Everything I Want, August 12, 2011
By Forest Ferkin (Southern California)
Well this is the FOURTH one of these I have purchased and they have all done exactly what I wanted. I really like that it is wireless so the installation is very clean and easy to deal with. I lost one. I gave another to my father, I lost another one in a crash (it went down the hill and into the bushes and I couldn't find it) and finally the one I am using.

In fact this time I really read the directions carefully and figured out how to make it SAVE the settings from my ride so they don't get tampered with my radio interference on the way home from the ride. Also I figured out how to reset the distance without having to reset the odometer or the time or my wheel's circumference which were my peeves before. So now it really does everything I want and so much more cheaply then everything else.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Buttons Malfunction Easily, July 16, 2011
By J. Beardsley (MD USA)
This computer was easy to mount, and it ran great for a few months. The main problems started when both buttons began malfunctioning. They would not easily press...get stuck...and misread entries all the time. Before too long, the unit became unuseable. I would get another model.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Bad sizing and cover for sensor doesn't shut tight after inserting the battery, February 28, 2011
By La Liz (San Jose, CA)
I was very happy with the service and promptness. My problem is with the piece itself.

1. Cover to battery for sensor doesn't screw tight no matter what you do so if there's vibration on the ride the lid is going to pop off.
2. The sensor doesn't sit flush against the fork it sticks out oddly and again no support on the battery cover so it's going to fly off since it doesn't sit against the fork. I have a mountain bike-women's Q520 Felt and if I put the sensor the way the directions describe it would hit my spokes.
3. Plastic ties are in "clear" so if you have a black bike they will stand out. I had to buy black straps.
4. I didn't even use it yet. You get what you pay for with this one.

I took a little too long to try it out and I've lost the stupid instructions. I hear the Cateye Strata is best but pricy.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Very limited range for wireless sensor, February 20, 2011
By chris00seven
I bought this speedometer as an admittedly crude and limited but inexpensive way to keep track of my riding indoors on a trainer. Naturally the sensor had to go on the back wheel, and the range of this speedometer was not enough to allow for mounting the display on the handlebars.

In the end I had to mount the display on the top tube and read it sideways.

The display would sometimes turn off randomly and would not turn back on for some time even when the buttons were pressed.

It was hard to get the unit to reset.

I don't know if the unit I got was defective or just cheaply made, but I wasn't impressed.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwin Wireless Cycle computer, January 15, 2011
By Lana N Alleyne (Miami, Fl United States)
Very pleased with purchase. Good value for money. Wish it had an auotmatic "on" feature, but not a deal breaker.
UPDATE: Think i was too quick to praise. I've since thrown this away out of utter frustration. In the middle of rides, looked down and computer was off, wish I had saved those few dollars and jus invested in a Cateye wireless which I've had good experience with. Again if i lived in the uS would definitely have returned. Oh well.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  No back light, December 18, 2010

No information was given about the fact that it had no backlight. When riding at night you can not see any information. Also the censer has to be mounted so close to the magnetic reader that it may touch when riding. Do not waste your time or money buy a better unit.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Waste of money, August 3, 2011
By William Patterson (San Antonio, TX)
Got one for my birthday for my new Schwinn bike. The receiver cannot be mounted properly as a bump in the road causes it to missallign in relation to the magnet. Plus, WHERE it is mounted on the fork (how far up or down) is going to change and effect the calibration of wheel size. Is junk.
