Designed with a unique and patented top tube radius to fit both 26-inch and 700c wheeled adult bicycles, the Trail-a-Bike allows young children, up to 85 pounds, to pedal along with the grownups, learn the rules of the road while protected and guided by an adult rider, and bike farther than they could on their own bike.

The Adams Trail-a-Bike Original Folder has an easy folding mechanism that makes it smaller than any other tandem bike design, for convenient storage and transportation. The entry-level tandem bicycle has a single speed with kid-sized handlebar grips, pedals, and saddle for optimum comfort as well as a low center of gravity and low positioning of the child for more stability. The Trail-A-Bike has a patented top tube radius that fits most adult bikes and features a large and sturdy universal-joint hitch, with four shims to fit most seatposts. Among other convenient aspects of the Trail-a-Bike, the design allows for the use of panniers without interference. Designed for safety, the Trail-a-Bike is equipped with an integrated chain ring protector for less mess, easier storage and transportation, and to protect from chain-related accidents, as well as a flag for increased visibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Well Designed Product - Good Customer Service, January 1, 2009
By Mom2Michael (Houston, TX)
I purchased the Adams Trail-a-Bike so my 3.5 year old son and I could go riding together. I researched all the available models and liked this design the best (I'm an engineer), but could not decide on which size would be best for my son (Compact or Original). So I called the company and got REAL person that actually understood the product to answer my questions.

But I was leary of purchasing the Trail-a-Bike without any customer reviews. So I decided to purchase a Wee-Ride Co-Pilot from a local store because I could return it if there were problems (such as described by other Amazon customers). Good thing. The Wee-Ride assembly prevented the U-joint hitch from moving. I tried loosening the bolt but my good tools only made the Allen head hexagonal flats into a circle (the bolt was made of mild steel). So I returned the bike and the other one in the store had the same tight u-joint problem. So I left without a bike.

Now Chritmas to fast approaching, so I ordered the Trail-a-Bike from Seasonal Outfitters through Amazon. It was shipped super quick and arrived a day early.

I wish I had not wasted two trips (purchase and return) in buying the Wee-Ride model. The Adams Trail-a-Bike is an excellent design and well built. The hitch/u-joint and the folding mechanism are what separate this trailer bike from the others. One quick connect clamp allows the bike to fold and to ajust the seat height. Even though it is easily loosened for folding, it is very secure because the natural pull by the lead bike tries to keep the bikes straight.

The hitch has different size inserts to securely grip the lead bike's seat post without allowing the clamp to crush the seat post and make it out-of-round. The hitch is cylindrical with a square post in the center. This makes a very stable connection but one that can easily slide apart when the hitch pin is removed. The connection on the Wee-Ride required a hammer to slide the hitch apart. I can easily make the connection with one hand while holding my bike from falling over. It works so good I would suggest buying a 2nd hitch Adams Trail-A-Bike Hitch With Shims, Replacementso that two bikes can be set up to pull the child's Trail-a-Bike.

I have pulled my son about 10 miles on 3 trips. He loves it. He is very stable and the Trail-a-Bike even goes around corners well. The u-joint even allows me to take sidewalk ramps to the street while making sharp turns without a problem. He is currently too small to peddle, but he can place his feet on the peddles when the seat is at the lowest position and I have turned the handle bar as low as possible.

I only have to remember to keep my speed down to the recommended level because I can't be sure that my son might see something interesting and decide to get off without telling me. That is why he has a helmet, knee and elbow pads.

Overall this was a good purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Well designed and safe, March 26, 2009
By Dana Mayadag
After reading many reviews we bought this bike for my almost four year old daughter. At first she was scared to get on, but after a few days of taking short rides she was comfortable and asking to go on longer rides. Now she loves it! This Adams trail-a-bike turns very well without problems and seems very safe. The only problem would be if the child was not old enough or coordinated enough to hold on tight. Other brands of bike trailers had been reviewed as being "wobbly", but this one is not. The child can choose to either pedal or not pedal during the ride.

There are two models of this bike, this is the 20" larger version designed for 4-6 year olds. There is also a compact version that is two inches smaller, designed for 3-5 year olds. My daughter is 3 years and 9 months old and a bit tall for her age. We have the seat all the way down, and she is just barely tall enough to pedal comfortably. I am glad we got the bigger version, though. I think we will be using this for family bike rides for quite a few years.

Our bike arrived within 5 days and took my husband about 20 minutes to put together and attach to my bike. You can buy an extra attachment so that the bike can be easily switched from one parent's bike to the other.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Terrific product for young children, March 13, 2009
By RWH (Pennsylvania, USA)
The Adams Trail-a-Bike is a terrific product: sturdy, well-constructed, with a nice look about it. Naturally, I purchased the bike for use with my 4 year old. I had considered the cheaper tag along bike offered by Amazon (another brand than Adams), but instead decided a bike for your toddler is not the item to go cheap on. I'm glad I went for the Adams (although I still think the price on this one is quite reasonable.) The bike comes folded up and requires some basic assembly. Took me 15 minutes to put it together ... nothing complicated.

Perhaps the niftiest feature of the bike is the universal joint connection to the lead back, which allows for up and down and side to side movement, but no leaning movement either left or right. The joints are stiff enough to make for smooth turns and ups and downs, but loose enough (obviously) to allow turning at all. I had no trouble mounting the mount on my bike's seat stem.

My four year old took the bike in about 2 minutes. We practiced in the driveway, then took it easy on our quiet street. We discussed pedaling/coasting, and how important it was to hold on tight even when it feels like she might fall (the sensation of leaning to one side or another). After just a minutes, she had it and we've been riding ever since.

There is a little play in the universal joint that, when translated all the way down the bike, can give it a little bit of lean either way ... but it is minimal.

Bottom line: great product for a great price. Take the time to "train" your kid how to ride it and you'll enjoy hours of riding together. My daughter's favorite part? The flag that comes with it and mounts on the back.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Pedal/wheel seizes up, March 25, 2010
By E. Bedard (SPRINGFIELD, VA, US)
I bought 2 of these yesterday and my husband and I took our girls out on the bike trail. They were easy to install on our bikes and the girls both enjoyed them. However, halfway through our ride, the back wheel/pedal seized up on one of the Trail-a-Bikes. This made getting home tricky and really upset my daughter. Luckily I bought them at a Performance Bike shop so I'm going to drop it off for them to repair tonight. Hopefully they'll fix it and we can have a lot of great rides ahead of us. I wouldn't recommend buying this product on-line, from the difficulty the other person had getting the part to fix this. Glad I bought it at a store so I can take it back to be fixed.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  absolutely no customer service., July 10, 2009
By Sam (Il.)
On receipt of this product it was found to be missing the ball race on the right side. The sprocket was pulled snug to the frame and the pedals would not turn at all. Mistakes happen. The short story is that this CANADIAN product is assembled in CHINA. NORCO who owns the name ADAMS trail-a-bike, stated they do not "Necessarily authorize their products to be sold online". Which apparently means they do, except when there is a problem. The company will not directly deal with customers, and my "local" distributor (a two hour drive away) delayed the shipment of the part, which retails at less than $5.00, for over a week. A call back revealed that they never even checked their inventory. Surprise they didn't have it. Norco then shipped me a ball race set from the tire, despite explicit details given them. Unless there is some confusion about "the ball race on the pedal crank arm, right side" After five weeks I finally got my correct part. since it had to be shipped from CHINA back to CANADA to get to ILLINOIS, as NORCO does not stock parts for their own products on this side of the PACIFIC. I waited to post this until the issue was resolved. If someone from NORCO reads this, I am contacting every agency I can think of or find to report your feloniously poor customer service, and VERY misleading claims as to the country of origin.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  We'll see how this turns out... - IT TURNED OUT GREAT!, March 24, 2010
By McElligot's Pool
UPDATE (4/15): Laura from Seasonal Outfitters took care of the problem with the bike in an equitable and timely fashion. I now have a replacement wheel on the Trail-a-Bike and all's good. I would recommend her/her company wholeheartedly - she really worked to give me a fair solution - thanks, Laura!

While I didn't get around to posting this update until now, the resolution was worked out in a matter of days from my original post (3/24).

I talked with the owner at a local bike shop I deal with and he says the problem I ran into is very rare, so I feel the product (which he also told me is the only kids' tandem he'll sell) is fine and this was just one of those things.

My granddaughter has now ridden this bike/tandem a bunch of times and it's been headache free and plenty of fun. I recommend this Adams product to anyone looking at the various brands.

I've upgraded my rating to 4 stars to reflect this update.

ORIGINAL POST: I purchased the Adams Trail-a-Bike through Seasonal Outfitters here on amazon March 9. The bike arrived in timely fashion (3/15 or 16, I believe) and in good condition. Assembly was simple and my granddaughter and I were on the road!

She's ridden the bike 3 or 4 times now and loves it. Unfortunately, yesterday (3rd or 4th ride - March 23) the wheel seized up and does not move forward or backward. I contacted the seller, who provided me an 800 # for Norco (who I guess manufactures or distributes - or both - the Adams Trail-a-Bike) and told me "let me know how it turns out."

Norco customer service told me this is not their problem - that they provide no customer support for their products bought online - and told me the seller was responsible for making this right. They also told me this happens "in one or two percent of all cases" and "oh well" for me. They suggested my other option was to take the bike to my local bike shop and have them repair it at my cost... Wow!

When I called Seasonal Outfitters back, they didn't answer the phone & I have now left voice mail and sent email to them. We'll see how responsive they are.

I ordered this product after looking at a variety of similar "bikes" online - all of which seemed to suffer from this malady except the Adams product. Even my local bike shop told me this is the one they carry, for that very reason.

But, at present at least, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place on this purchase. Hopefully Seasonal Outfitters will step up and make it right. I'll keep you posted!

In the meantime, I can't recommend this product - at least not purchased online with no customer support from the company.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  we love it, she won't ride her own bike now, July 25, 2010
By Lisa Adams (CA)
We bought this to attach onto daddy's bike for around the neighborhood and while on camping trips and such. It was very easily to assemble, and my husband pops it on and off his bike in no time flat.

It's a very sturdy piece for the price and my just turned 4 year old daughter (42", 41 lbs) fits on it perfectly.

She loves riding behind daddy so much, that every time we head out for a bike ride, no matter how short, she always wants to "ride behind daddy."

The ability to fold the bike is perfect for us to allow us to travel with it more compactly.

The bike itself has a bit of play where it attaches, and we can't seem to figure out how to get it any tighter. It seems to be the design of the bike. It seems to be very stable to us, and we check it every time to make sure the bike is secure. You must take extra caution to not wiggle your rider back there or take corners too fast lest they go flying off.

We bought the larger model as our daughter is very tall for her age at 4 years old, but I don't know that I'd put a child younger than 3.5 or 4 on a bike like this anyway, so I think the smaller one would be a waste of money. 3 years old is pretty young for this type of bike and we even have to keep reminding our daughter to keep both hands on the handle bars.

Even when she's able to ride her own bike without training wheels, I can see her wanting to ride this for years to come.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Beware - The wheel locks up, July 3, 2010
By TGarduno
I was so excited to make this purchase in the spring this year. My daughter was just as excited if not more. It was easy to put together. However, I had a little bit of trouble tightly screwing the attachment to the bike. I may have even stripped the part that I tighten. Well, we rode for two days with no problems. On the third day, we were riding and came to screeching stop. As written in other reviews, it was like the tire was superglued to the frame. In order to get it started again, I had to rotate the tire backwards. I thought the problem was fixed. But it happens whenever my daughter doesn't pedal. I haven't yet tried to fix the problem. I thought I would check to see what has happened in the past. It looks as if this is a recent problem, because when I researched the product before I made my purchase it seemed that this was the one to buy. Now I have to decide if I should bring it to my local bike shop or try to go through the manufacturer. I like the idea of this bike. I like the ease of attaching and detaching it to my bike. But the fact that the wheel locks up and that this is not an isolated incident would make me not purchase a Trail a Bike online again if ever.
I feel that I needed to make this review, because I am sure that it has probably happened to many people that have not reported this problem at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Pedals and wheel repeatedly lock up, May 3, 2010
By J. Holman (California)
Worked fine at first. Then about a mile down the road the pedals and wheel completely locked up. After disconnecting it from the bike, folding it up, etc., it started working again. We tried it again on another ride, and again it worked fine at first, but about 1/4 mile down the road, it locked up again. I see that at least one other reviewer experienced the same problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, April 12, 2009
By S. Mantini (Upstate NY)
I bought this for my 4 year old. She is actually taller then most 4 year olds but I still had to put blocks on the pedals so she could reach. Other then that, the product is great. Easy to put together, easy to transports and easy to store. I would recommend this to anyone moving to the next step before a little bike (2 wheels).

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Front hitch trouble...but great once its on., July 13, 2009
By JRWall (Ohio)
This is a great product...once you get it on your bike. My trouble was in getting the hitch assembly and shim on to my seat post. My seat post size fell within the requirements of one of the shims, but the assembly was so tight over my seatpost it took a half hour to 'force' it on. I tried the other shims - too tight or too loose. Only one would fit, and I had a devil of a time getting it on the post.
Once on however, the bike is great. Its well built, fun to ride and sturdy.

I recommend it...but make sure you're not expecting it to easily slide on your bike's seatpost.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great overall - but is the quality slipping?, November 20, 2010
By Jonathan
I bought this for my 4 year old last month- fairly easy to put together but I believe it was "designed in Canada" but is now "made in China" and my initial concerns were justified. The chain guard and a few other spots on the bike arrived dented/scratched- no big deal but a little disappointing for a new bike. Two stickers near the back wheel were put on upside down, one of the bars where the pedals screw onto wasn't properly threaded and I had to screw the pedal on from the other end (with some force) a few times to finish the threading on the correct side, and lastly, the long screw that connects the hitch to the seat post attachment doesn't fit inside the hole quite right. As such, the part that folds over the hitch doesn't quite fit-it's close enough to work and be safe, but again, it was disappointing for a new Adams bike that has such great reviews. Obviously, someone was rushing when they put mine together. FYI: there are some mentions that I saw on Google of this bike having a rear wheel lock-up issue that fortunately hasn't happened to me, apparently it's a $25 dollar fix at the bike shop if you're one of the few unlucky ones that come across this problem.

On the other hand, my son feels like a rock star when we take it out in the neighborhood!! He loves it!! He and I enjoy the extra distance and adventures we can come across now that we can ride at a normal pace. It only took about 5-10 minutes to get used to the added weight and handling changes. After just 3 rides around town, I've already had several people comment on how much fun it looks and one asked me how they could get one for their son too. I'm planning on buying a second hitch so that my wife can easily take our son out on her bike as well. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the overall quality and engineering of the bike, and would buy another, but wish the quality control/inspection process had been better. My goal in the upcoming week is to have my 1.5 year old daughter in the front mounted "Ibert" child carrier (very well rated also!!!) and my 4 year old on his Adams Trail-a-bike, and take both my kids out for a cruise around town that will scream "outdoor family time" to all that pass by. The Adams bike is a great way to get your kid away from the t.v. set. Have fun and be safe!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  warrantee problem, May 24, 2010
By J. Jones
I ordered the Adams trail-a bike from a sports and fitness store on line. It arrived fine and was easy to put together however after riding it for maybe a half mile the wheel suddenly froze up. I had to carry it home. I took it to a bike shop and they diagnosed the problem and gave me a $25 estimate to fix it. I called the company that I ordered it from and they referred me to Adams. They told me that this had been a problem with this model in previous years. Adams said to go ahead and have it fixed and they would cover it . I did this but when I called them back to ask for reimbursement they would not honor the warrantee. After a few more calls I became frustrated and gave up. In all fairness now that the bike is fixed I really like it. My advise to anyone considering this bike is to buy a different brand from a local source.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Not What I Expected, August 26, 2011
By Nicole Coelho
I should begin by saying it took a lot longer to arrive than expected (more than stated). Second it was scratched and the box ripped. Tried not to let it discourage me since I figured it would be beaten up on the trail anyway. The thing that really upset me was the trailer bike handling. It is so difficult to stay balanced when pulling that it practically throws you off your bike. So I checked all of the fittings with the directions again...bike mount, etc. Appeared it was accurate just a poor design. Definite waste of money. I would not recommend this product to anyone whether you've ridden bikes your whole life or a recreational rider. It's just not safe.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Amazon is not an auth dealer, so no warranty and poor quality, July 18, 2011
By J. Courant
I got this bike for my son. I took it out of the box and the pedals turned VERY roughly. I ended up dissembling the bottom bracket to find the crank side ball race was mangled and two of the bearings were loose in the bottom bracket housing. The cause appeared to be a very loose retaining nut holding the sprocket to the crank. I called the manufacturer (Norco) for a replacement ball race, a $5 part, and they said that Amazon is not an authorized dealer so there is no warranty. I am returning the entire thing to Amazon now for a refund.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Hitch is in the way., June 2, 2011
By J. Welch (Maryland)
First off, let me say I like this trail a bike. My daughter (4.5) loves it. The reason for the 3 stars is the hitch, which I find extremely annoying.

When installed correctly (low as possible on my seatpost, using the correct plastic spacer), the two metal "mickey mouse ears" in the front (that house the metal cylinders the bolts go through) hit my inner thighs when I pedal. My bike (older Trek mountain bike) is sized/adjusted properly for me (5'11", 165lbs). But every pedal stroke, my thighs hit, and it's starting to erode into my bike shorts. I know there's some fat on my inner thighs, but I'm not in general a fat person. Am I the only one who experiences this?

Things I have tried to fix this: First, I called the 800 help line number on Adam's website. Promptly connected to a very polite gentleman from their Canadian distributer. He was puzzled, had no idea, and wished me good luck.

Next, I tried mounting the hitch up as high as possible on the seat post. Still rubbed, so I moved it back down where it belongs. Next I moved my seat forward, which helped a bit, but positioned me too far forward on the bike. I raised/lowered the seat height, but no satisfactory solution.

So I decided to modify the hitch--I took one of the thinner plastic sleeves, trimmed some plastic off one end, and then tightened the hitch all the way down, to try to draw the two metal "ears" into the midline, out of the way. It was a small improvement, but now the two bolt ends extended way out, fraying my shorts. So I took a Dremel and carefully trimmed an excess centimeter off each bolt end.

It's now a liveable problem--I still feel the hitch on my thighs when I pedal, but it's not prohibitively irritating. I've thought of looking at other brands of trail a bikes to see if the hitches were less intrusive, but I'll probably just stick with Adams, especially since I've modified the hitch...might make a product return somewhat difficult.

But SURELY there's a way to re-engineer this hitch to be lower-profile in the front....

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for my 3.5 year old boy, November 14, 2010
By Todd C. Bustillo (Cypress, CA United States)
I just received this Adams original folder for my 3.5 year old son, who is 41" tall. We've been riding together since he was 1 on a Schwinn Trailblazer Bike Trailer, purchased back in 2008 (another great product) and recently decided to make the switch to this tandem-trailer bike set up. WOW! He totally loves it. We've done some practice rides so far around the neighborhood and he completely enjoys it. We do 20+mile rides on the weekends and haven't taken it out yet because we are waiting for the seat back to arrive (had to buy that from a 3rd party vendor because Amazon was out). But even without the seat back he is fine. I just won't take him out for long rides on the trail until I get that one due to his age. This is a great product, well designed and built. It folds up for easy, convenient transport. He loves the fact that he can now participate in the actual ride as opposed to just being a passenger. I'm going to miss having all the storage for his stuff in the Schwinn, but the fun of this Adams folder more than makes up for it. He can get up on and off all by himself and he is only 41" tall and about 33 lbs. Definitely highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product poor service, August 24, 2010
By Carin Hosler
The bike seems to be well made and should last for several years. I was tempted to buy the compact model but am glad I did not as it fits my 3.5 year old pretty well. The product was shipped without a key pin that prevents the bike from folding in half. We called the company and was told that they could not help us and that they do not recomend that consumers purchase their product from the internet. They kindly refered me to their nearest reatail outlet (>3000 miles away). Get real... this is a 2 cent part

3.0 out of 5 stars.  good product but arrived poorly pre-assembled, May 20, 2010
By Jeff K (Rochester, NY)
Assembling the trail-a-bike was easy. After reading the reviews, I was most focused on the mechanism that connects the trail-a-bike with my bike, since any weakness or poor installation could put my 4-year-old at risk. The connection to the frame of my mtb was stable and worked fine. HOWEVER, on the 2nd outing, the wheel on the trail-a-bike ground to a halt while underway. I pulled over to figure out what happened and the wheel would not spin - it was if it had been superglued to the hub. When I got home and inspected the wheel in more detail I noticed that the freewheel was not fully threaded onto the hub, and furthermore the threads were not aligned. My local bike shop inspected the hub and determined that the threads on the hub were damaged. I called Norco and they said they had never heard of this, and told me to contact a dealer. I contacted a dealer and he said that sometimes the freewheel is not fully tightened by the factory - so obviously he had seen this before. Unfortunately now I have to either pay an additional $30 to have my local shop fix it, or I have to go through the hassle of sending this off to a dealer (there are no dealers in NY state). Conclusion: in addition to inspecting the attachment to the towing bike, INSPECT THE FREEWHEEL AND MAKE SURE IT IS FULLY AND PROPERLY THREADED.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Worth every cent., July 10, 2011
By V. Hunter (Fayetteville, AR United States)

I wanted a trailer bike to ride my son around on, so my husband and I both researched everything we could find out about them. We both separately decided that the Adams Trail bikes were the most well made and stable for us. We've been riding for the past week and it's been wonderful. I installed it myself, which took an easy 45 minutes. Everything went together smoothly. The directions we're pretty clear, and I'm no engineer, just a mom with an allen wrench. It's very stable and maneuvers easily for my little one.
Our only complaint was that my husband paid for expedited shipping and they didn't ship it out until the day it was to arrive.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Safer and Easier than Baby Seat, June 30, 2011

We had a baby seat before buying this product and although my daughter weighed less I found it extremely heavy and would shake from head to foot after a trip to the store. The trailer and my daughter are much heavier but the ride is a lot easier since she can actually help out now.

I was concerned that the trailer would wobble but even on turns this really isn't a problem. I have now ridden with both my child and my little brother, neither of whom have ever ridden without training wheels and aside from the odd disconcerting wobble, our rides are much more fun than before.

Two problems I have with this bike:
1. Handle bars are a little too wide. Causes trouble when trying to get out of garage between tightly packed cars.
2. Only one seat. It would be super awesome if if I could snap on a second trailer so I wouldn't have to go out of two trips every time I ride so that both kids can have a turn.

My daughter's school is about a mile away, and I worked out that if I ride three days a week to drop her off and pick her up I will save about $37.80 in gas money before school gets out for summer (assuming gas stays cheep). We also hope to make trips to the store which is further away, so I'm expecting to make my money back in a year or so. Plus exercise and fresh air.

Good for teaching safety and road rules.

TLDR: Good quality build, safe, fun, educational.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great quality, June 29, 2011
By Edward N. (connecticut)
Very happy with the quality of this product. It does cost more that other models on the market but you get what you pay for. My daughter was worth the few dollars extra knowing she is safe back there.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect!, June 6, 2011
By Roy
This was an awesome addition to our family's summer fun!

The product was extremely well made and very easy to assemble.

We spun around the cul-de-sac very slowly for a few minutes and then we were off to the races.

It's still pretty early but I think this product will end up helping my boy learn to balance his 2-wheeler a lot more quickly.

I would recommend this product to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Really cool for my daughter and really cool for the money, May 27, 2011
By R. Munguia (fort wayne, IN)
Bought this for my daughter so that she can go on long bike rides with us with no problems. Its really easy to set up, and real easy to attach and detatch whenever you want. Its a little different at first when riding and pulling, but it gets my daughter to sit up right and not lean form side to side like she does on trainig wheels.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  My daughter loves it, August 20, 2010
By QueCeraSara
I wanted a way to take my 8 year old daughter with me when I went on rides and I found it. She enjoys the rides. Assembly was quick and easy. It attaches and detaches easily from my bike, if you are going to be pulling it behind more than one bike order another hitch, as it is hard to remove.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works Great, July 3, 2010

Great for kids so they can keep up on long bike rides, I live in an area with steep hills so the weight of the bike and the toddler is difficult on steep hills but possible, my son absolutely loves it

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great purchase!, May 31, 2010
By Marlena (East Northport, NY)
We contemplated between buying the campact version of Adams Trail-A-Bide or the orginal for our three-year-old after reading so many reviews saying their child could not reach the pedals. I decided to take a chance and purchased the oringinal Adams Trail-A-Bike since it was 30 dollars cheaper. So glad I did. My son could reach the pedals with no problem, although he might be slightly tall for his age. We've used it twice so far and he loves it!! It was easy to hook-up and seems very safe and secure.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  We love this!, November 5, 2009
By LoveShoppingAmazon (Woodland Hills, CA)
We bought this for our 4 1/2 year old daughter so we could all go out riding together. She picked out the pink one (her favorite color) and after a few minutes of my husband installing it on his bike, we were off and riding. I would definitely recommend it. In fact, we are going to order a second hitch for my bike so we can attached the Trail-a-bike to my bike and I can take her out just the two of us.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Nice Unit, September 19, 2009
By Phillip M. Mazor (Grand Haven, Michigan)
The unit was very easy to assemble and attach to the bike. I have had no problem with this trail a bike aside from the hole in the tube upon receipt. I had to have the inner tube replaced in order to ride the bike for the first time. It is easy to pull and my son thoroughly enjoys riding this with me. He is learning to balance very quickly with continued use of this bike. I would highly reccommend this to anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Disappointed, September 4, 2009
By Kristy (Indianapolis, IN)
Received the item quickly, which was great. My husband had to spend couple of hours to assemble. The holes did not line up and he had to redo all of them. Once it was all put together and to be a surprise for our 4yr old daughter, the tire had gone flat. Come to find out it had a bad tire tube, had to go get a new one. Finally ready to go, she got on and couldn't reach the pedals well enough to ride and was scared to death. Our daughter will be 5 in Dec and is tall for her age (45 1/2 inches). The details of the item said for 4 and up. Over all very disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great trail a bike, August 20, 2009
By Carrie Mensik (Little Rock, Ar)
After reading many reviews, I finally chose this one and we're very happy with it. It attaches easily and tightly to our road bike and does not wobble at all when attached like some others I have read about. Great product overall!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A winner for any pre-schooler, May 12, 2011
By Rich
I did quite a bit of research on these "tandem" trail-a-bike, including trying out the high end in our local bike shop. This is as good as any of those and probably half the price. Took me an hour to put together (and I am only somewhat handy), very stable and secure link to my bike. I was concerned about height, but my 5 year old, 42 inch tall son has no problems hopping on by himself, balancing, and reaching the pedals in the lowest seat setting. The only downside is one pedal has the wrong threading so loosens as my son pedals. I have to make sure to tighten it regularly--seems not to be a defect as the pedals are labeled left/right, so an oversight by the manufacturer I guess. But no problems locking up like other reviewers and we have gone on some decent rides with a lot of hills in our neighborhood

HIGHLY recommend this trail-a-bike--great for the price and lots of fun.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Poor customer service; inadequate warranty, March 10, 2011
By Jacquelynn B. Chuter (Austin, TX)
My son enjoyed riding his trail-a-bike, but the pedal fell off on the third ride. The threads on the pedal itself were stripped, so it was impossible to reinstall. When I called Adams to request a replacement pedal, they informed me that the pedal was not covered by the warranty, and they refused to replace it, even though the customer service representative admitted that it was only a $10-$15 part. A more reputable company would be willing to spend this amount for a satisfied customer. The customer service representative asked if I had the bike assembled by an authorized dealer. There is only one authorized dealer in my city, and they did not have the original folder in stock, so that was not an option. Also, the bike did not come with assembly instructions, and the pedals were very difficult to install. I like the design of the bike, but I wish Adams would simply replace the poor quality components when they break so soon after purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, sturdy, hitch didn't fit my bike, September 18, 2011
By Judi
I bought the Trail-a-bike for my tiny six year old, who can't keep up on long rides. It's well made and very sturdy. However, my bike is an inexpensive Huffy, and the adapters for the hitch were all too large for my seat post. I took it to a local bike shop, and they said there was nothing they could do to attach the hitch to my seat post. My daughter is very excited about the trail a bike, so we're still looking for a safe way to make it fit. I'm sure it will be great once we get it to work, I just thought I'd warn others that it might not fit your seat post if all you have for the parent bike is a department store bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  My Son Loves It, September 11, 2011
By mixer 1979
I have had the trail-a-bike for almost a year now. We purchased it last Christmas for my oldest son to "keep up with us" and have room for our younger children in a bike-trailer (the youngest finally old enough to ride). It took some getting used to, but he took really quickly to the bike. You really should consider a fender on the lead bike as debris gets kicked up from time to time. I had originally tried a Wee-Ride from a local sports store chain. I was incredibly disappointed. As disappointed as I was with the Wee-Ride, I have been pleased with Adam's. After reading some of the reviews online, I must say I am glad I purchased this at a local bike shop. Most local shops I've been to take good care of thier customers and will fix any problems without hesitation. Finally I would say purchase a second hitch if you have two riding adults. We regularly switch off between the trail-a-bike and bike-trailer as the later gets a little heavy. Make sure it comes with all four inserts or that the insert you need is included. We did not get all four inserts originally, but we were eventually successful.

In summary:
1) Purchase the trail-a-bike at a local shop. Sorry Amazon, but not this time.
2) Purchase a fender to keep the dust down.
3) If you get a second hitch, get all four inserts - read descriptions carefully.

Really Really Fun, January 13, 2011
By me="R1NBQDD8MT1EUP"> 5.0 out of 5 stars Really Really Fun, January 1
I spent last summer with my 2-yr-old in a Wee Ride and my 5-yr-old behind on a Trail-a-bike. They go great together and we had a lot of fun. I got a used Trail-a-bike (2001) on CL and replaced a recalled bolt with the help of the customer service at Adams. I got great service. I was able to get an extra hitch at my local bike shop so we could easily switch from mom's to dad's bike.

We live in a big city and my 5-yr-old is not reliable to cross the street carefully. It is really great to have him attached so I can control street crossings and sidewalk bumps and navigate traffic. Without this, his biking would be limited to around and around the block. It is also a great way to go on longer family bike rides without small legs getting too tired.

Stick with Adams or a comprable good bike brand (Trek). A used Adams is better than a new trail-a-bike of a cheaper brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Superb!, January 5, 2012
By Hollow Daze
I ordered the Trail-a-bike ("TAB") and backrest because my tall 3.3 year-old outgrew her co-pilot seat. Wow! She has a totally new, fearless outlook that appears to have coincided with riding the TAB. On our maiden voyage, we both laughed for about the first 3/4 mile. I am so much more comfortable on my bike now too; this was worth every penny.

The installation took several hours and was more challenging than expected. One challenge was the shim size. For my 16 mm bike post, the smallest shim was too small and the next size was too big. We made the second shim smaller by using a small hacksaw used to cut pvc pipe to cut a sliver off the shim. Another challenge was that the hitch would not connect on the bike initially. We had to remove it and push the pieces together a few times to essentially sand it down a bit. In addition, the child's bike seat did not have enough room front-to-back to attach to the backrest. We had to reverse the direction of the hardware under the seat and then there was plenty of room. I am thrilled that we persevered and could not be happier with the TAB.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A fun product, great for riding with kdis, November 15, 2011
By bikeman (memphis, tn)
First of all, lets talk about what the product is. This is an imported China item, its very heavy and is more for casual riding. However, it is pretty structurally sound and easy for young children to ride on. It adds a whole new activity as my 5 and 6 year olds can now ride behind me through the neighborhood.

Attaching to a standard mountain bike was pretty easy and assembly only required an allen wrench(which was not included).

After gettting setup, the kids had a blast riding behind me on this bike! They could actually help me peddle, which was needed going up any hills you might encounter. Turning is a little tricky and getting up hills is pretty hard, and I'm a good cyclist. Also you have to be very steady yourself, as kids often get distracted and lean to one side or the other, causing you to have to counterbalance. There is also a little wobble in the attachemnt from side to side.

I recommend this item if you are pretty fit to have a lot of fun with your kids, especially riding on the streets where kids normally couldnt ride on their own bikes. I purchased for around $169 so I think we'll get our money out of this item!
