Armed conflict, disaster relief, missionary work, backcountry travel, humanitarian aid—these all are situations where you may come into contact with someone experiencing dental pain under adverse conditions. Emergency Dentistry Handbook is a field guide to providing dental care in such challenging environments, where resources and trained personnel are scarce and you need to save a tooth, manage pain, and prevent the spread of infection. Paramedic Met Clark, who has devoted his professional career to the special challenges of providing medical care in remote and austere environments, shows you how to: - recognize and manage dental trauma, inflammation, and infection
- perform simple procedures for examining and cleaning teeth, draining abscesses, splinting repaired teeth, extracting teeth, and more
- administer essential medications, including painkillers, antibiotics, topical anesthetics, and various forms of anesthesia
- identify dental emergencies that require evacuation to a higher level of care
- stock three levels of field dental kits

Not worth the price....., March 22, 2015

I really wanted to like this book - but it fell short in so many departments. It's too simple, it doesn't cover what you'd really need to know ( like dental extractions ) and the illustrations are not helpful.
Compare this book to "Where There Is No Dentist" and you'll see that WTIND has more ( and better ) illustrations, covers *far* more topics and is overall a much better book to have in your prepping library. If you can have only one book regarding prepper dentistry, this ain't it.

An excellent introduction to field emergency dentistry. More diagrams explaining procedures would have been helpful though. A must have for every austere environments practitioner.

I am one of those people who grind, break, chip, crack, there teeth ALL THE TIME and at odd hours. I have been looking for a book like this for EVER, gives you info on drugs to handle pain, numbing and etc. It also tells you what to do in case of fractures and cracks, its the next best thing then going to the dentist.
