The NEO Way is revolutionizing orthodontics. It represents the most radical change ever in treating children’s poor bites and crooked teeth. Traditional orthodontists may have parents wait until teeth and jaws approach full development at around age 11 or 12 before beginning extensive orthodontic braces, which then may require tooth extractions or even surgery. With New Early Orthodontics, NEO sees children as young as age four, while most facial growth is still ahead, to naturally straighten teeth and form beautiful smiles. Along with habit correction exercises, NEO uses gentle oral appliances worn for only an hour plus sleep time to create straight teeth in the most natural way, eliminating or lessoning the need for braces later. The NEO Way is an integrative medical approach and truly is the future of orthodontics! Authot Information Kent Lauson DDS MS is a traditionally trained specialist in orthodontics who came into the field because he wanted to straighten teeth and create beautiful smiles. The first years after specialty training, he practiced in Denver, Colorado, and performed orthodontics. Initially, he performed treatments like most of his colleagues, using primarily braces. Many of his patients needed extractions to straighten their teeth. However, after a few years in practice, he became aware of unexplained problems some of his previously treated patients were experiencing. Those problems included headaches, facial pain, and jaw joint pain. He wondered, “Could this have anything to do with what I did to straighten the teeth?” This was very upsetting to him, because he not only didn’t know the answer to this question, but he also was unaware of how to help these patients. More questions came up, and he was motivated to find the answers. He began a five-year journey (averaging eighteen trips per year) traveling to professional seminars to find much-needed answers. He went to not only dental and orthodontic seminars, but also to allied medical meetings in the fields of otolaryngology, physical therapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, and even craniosacral therapy. He knew there was a connection between the various fields, and he began finding many of the answers he sought. Things would never be the same, as he now realized that treatments he had been doing for patients were in many ways responsible for the negative side effects they were later experiencing. Since becoming enlightened, Dr. Lauson has successfully treated thousands of patients who were dealing with significant challenges. He discovered how to effectively treat these problems, and if they occurred as part of orthodontic treatment, how to get them corrected during the treatment.
