The field of orthodontics has conventionally been considered as the management of the dentition in its entirety. And yet most orthodontic cases can be seen as the composite of problems associated with the orientation and development of individual teeth. Previous texts have described the techniques and appliances used in both extraction and non-extraction cases, but never before have these been discussed in terms of the treatment mechanics of each tooth involved.
