Is Orthodontics on the Verge of Radical Change? To date, teeth displacement is classified according to a purely descriptive formula that dates back to 1899. Many regrets have been expressed on the lack of theoretical underpinnings for this 'angle classification', although a better system is yet to be found. It is precisely this gap that is now filled by the present research report from Swiss dentist, orthodontist and specialist in cephalometry, Dr. Martin vom Brocke. He proposes a new dental classification that stands in a significant structural relation to the position of the ears, the chin, the nose, the eyes, tooth sizes, the occlusion, the second dentition, and the ζ4 function. Vom Brocke's central finding is an evolution-dependent structural adjustment phenomenon that follows the mathematically harmonious zeta (ζ) functions. This phenomenon, described by the author as 'struction', opens up new possibilities also beyond the field of orthodontics. The research findings are supported by observations from other areas of biology and appear to be transferable to a wide range of natural growth processes.
