Whether you simply want to understand fluoride and it's uses for personal reasons, or you already understand the adverse health effects and are fighting to have it removed from your community's water supply, this book is an essential resource. It is loaded with information and evidence. In fact, nearly 100 pages are citations and appendices, perfect for the fluoride activist's preparation in educating the public and city council.

important information on fluoride in our water, August 17, 2015

This is really great information. I've had serious concerns about fluoride for a long time despite my dentist's insistence on it but I've never seen the research information in one comprehensive place. I'm really glad that I got the book and I have bought myself a fluoride filtering pitcher. I always had trouble drinking enough water because every time I took a sip, it felt bitter on my tongue and never quenched my thirst. The water from the fluoride filtering pitcher tastes wonderful and I just gulp it down.

Great book - clear and compeling arguments against artificial water fluoridation., August 15, 2015

This book is easy to read and summarizes well the arguments against using fluorine contaminants in our water supply. I find it very interesting that generally in Western Europe the incidence of tooth decay according to WHO data has reduced, yet 97% of Europe does not inject fluorine into their public water supply. They may use fluoride in their toothpaste, and brush their teeth more regularly... but they don't mass fluoridate. Rather than spending millions of dollars buying fluoride products from industry maybe we should provide dental hygiene education to our children?. Just sayin'.

Australian Prisons,The German Death Camps & New York City Tap Water: Sedation by fluoridation, May 18, 2015
By Sara Seinfeld

|
Very well researched book outlining the politics and fraudulent science behind the questionable practice of water fluoridation. With all the new information about the harm caused by the fluoridation chemicals, the industrial toxic waste called fluosilicic acid we are dumping in our drinking water, it's apparent that this practice needs to end the same way as asbestos and leaded gas and DDT. The powerful industry forces behind water fluoridation has more to do with sustaining the money flow that keeps it in our water than reducing dental decay. If 98% of Europe is unfluoridated, and has better dental health, why are we still doing it? This book shines a light on the politics of this failed public health measure.

With 57 reviewers giving this book 4 stars or greater, it shows the strength of this well researched expose on the dangers of fluoridated water and gives a balanced approach into the insights of both the proponents' and opponents' arguments. Chapter 25 lists off 40 arguments that fluoridation proponents use and the opponent response to each one.
pp.275-355 list off all references used for this book.

With over 80 quotes that I wrote down for this review, I will provide a few here.
pp.68-70 a short chronology is given, based on the events unfolding in the dental, medical and industrial fields from the late 19th century to 1950, which include various studies used by the U.S. Public Health Service to endorse fluoridation with the American Dental Association and other professional organizations quickly following suit in 1950..
The foundation of the book: "...evidence for the notion that swallowing fluoride (as opposed to applying it topically) reduces tooth decay is very weak. The exaggerated claims of fluoridation's benefits have been supported by very dubious science, but the matter does not stop there; poor science has characterized the whole promotion and defense of the fluoridation program over its long history."
On studies of possible health issues: "...no studies have been carried out in the United States or most other fluoridating countries to investigate possible relationships between fluoridation and the following: 1)Lowered IQ in children. 2) Alzheimer's disease in adults. 3)Lowered thyroid function. 4)Increased arthritis rates in adults. 5) Bone fractures in children. 6)Lowered melatonin levels and earlier onset of puberty. 7)Irritable bowel syndrome."
On fluoride ingestion: "On average, only 50% of the fluoride we ingest each day is excreted through the kidneys, the remainder largely accumulating in our bones, teeth, pineal gland, and other calcifying tissues. People with poor kidney function excrete less fluoride. This affects the elderly, as kidney function decreases with age. Because the total mass of our bones is so large, 99% of the total fluoride accumulates there, although that does not mean concentrations reached in other tissues are not significant. This may be particularly true of the pineal gland."
On worldwide fluoridated water consumption: "Only about 400 million people drink fluoridated water, and most of them live in North America. Globally, those who do are a distinct minority. Only eight countries have more than 50% of their population drinking fluoridated water; only 2% of the population of Europe drinks fluoridated water."
On fluoride and the FDA: "The US Food and Drug Administration has never approved fluoride for ingestion. It rates fluoride as an 'unapproved drug'...Fluoride has never undergone rigorous clinical trials for effectiveness by the FDA or any health authority in the world. Nor has any serious attempt been made to establish the long-term safety of fluoridation."
