I love science books with excellent illustrations! This has been such a fun book for us (parents) and our kids. Great for discussion and not to wordy for the little ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This is a book that is not only very informative, but also a lot of fun to read or browse!, July 03, 2009

If you stick your finger in your mouth (wash your hands first) you can count how many teeth you have. There are animals that have relatively few teeth but the fearsome looking shark has an amazing number of teeth. The "great white shark can have as many as three thousand" teeth you never want to meet up with. Teeth have many different functions and even if you think about your own you could probably think of several. The vampire has teeth that slice through skin to get blood from another animal. The snow leopard uses its canines to stab its prey. Have you figured out how many teeth you have yet?

In this book you'll meet up with many animals and will learn some of the special functions some of their teeth have. You'll read about a spotted hyena, a horse, human beings, a five-lined skink, a bullfrog, an Asian elephant, an Atlantic walrus, a western diamondback rattlesnake, a moose, a narwhale, an ay-aye (what's that?), an orca, a great white shark, a tuatara, a Cuban crocodile, a hippopotamus, a cutthroat trout, a bullnose ray, an Alaskan brown bear and a chimpanzee. Teeth crack, stab, slice, grind, mash, munch and smile at you. This fascinating book will tell you things about them you may never have known. Did you know that one of these creatures has teeth in its throat? You'll have to read the book to find out which one!

This is a book that is not only very informative, but also a lot of fun to read or browse. The illustrations are colorful and very vibrant. There are some cutaway illustrations of hidden teeth and some with an additional skull illustration to emphasize certain points the author is trying to make. For example, the hyena is also shown with a skull to emphasize his powerful jaws and the strength of his back teeth. Children and adults will both enjoy this book. If there was a copy of this in a dentist's office it would be worn out in no time flat!
