Pricey But Good, February 18, 2013

Acupuncture follows the Meridian Theory in TCM, so in theory, this technique can treat almost any ailment that herbal medicine can treat. Nevertheless, even the most faithful believers of acupuncture would admit that needling is most convincingly effective in pain management.
This book by Giovanni Macioca is a serious textbook which I would only recommend to students who have a strong foundation in principles of TCM. The book first explains the Aetiology of postoperative pain from a TCM point of view. The reader/student must not only be familiar with acupuncture points. He must also be familiar with Yin Yang Theory, Pathogenesis, Organ Chronology and Organ Theory.
The book goes very briefly into point location, modern research, scientific explanations and TCM Syndrome Differentiation. The scope of pain covered is virtually exhaustive. Almost any kind of pain - including anal pain.
If you are serious about the authentic TCM way of managing pain with acupuncture, this book will prove to be an indispensable resource. Only problem? It's a bit pricey.
