5.0 out of 5 stars.  Grateful to Dr. Taddey for this resource, August 30, 2014
By Catherine Morland (0)
It's been many years since I read this book, and I gave away my last copy, but I will always remember how much this helped me when I was in the worst stages of dealing with TMJ in the mid-90s. I had been to a "specialist," and I was fitted with a night-guard by my orthodontist, but when I didn't get much relief, this was my first time realizing I couldn't sit around waiting for doctors to solve my problems. The night-guard seemed to help at first, but then I started waking up with more pain rather than less, so at some point I trotted down to the library (pre-Internet!) to try to learn more. This was the book I found, and I referred to it many times over the next couple of years. It helped me understand TMJ and how I got it (being hit in the face as a teen), and with the help of a chiropractor, I was eventually able to get my jaw fixed. I don't remember if that option was mentioned in the book, but I do know I used a lot of Dr. Taddey's advice and it was like my "security blanket" as I navigated through various therapies, different kinds of pain, headaches, etc. I tried the no-chew diet during a really bad time and it helped immensely. Twenty years later, my jaw isn't perfect, and I get occasional tweaks from my chiro if needed, but it doesn't give me any significant trouble from year to year as long as I respect my limits. (No beef jerky!)

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Horrible BOOK! Do Not buy, July 18, 2005
By H. Sandhu (0)
Do not buy this book, it is basically just a depressive book. By Dr. Uppgaard's book instead, this dentist is a pessimistic dentist so stay away from this book and his "knowledge".

5.0 out of 5 stars.  TMJ: The Self-Help Program, November 25, 2002
By yA customer
Very useful information. I live in a remote town and it's 3 hours to the nearest doctor who treats TMJ. The self help info really helped me treat myself. I bought two products the book recommended and was able to stop the headaches.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Dealing with TMJ, January 24, 2002
By yA customer
This book has been a great source of information for me in dealing with my TMJ disorder. It has given me a greater understanding of my condition and wonderful information on helping me deal with the pain.
I had decided to try the TMJ orthotics before resorting to surgery. The orthotics have helped me greatly and I have alot less pain. The home exercies are also very beneficial.
I would definitely recommend this book to others.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  tmj the real story, September 17, 2001
By yA customer
I am a 36 yr. old female. I have been suffering with TMJ/DJD for a great many years - 22 to be exact. For the past 4 it's been hell. With four surgeries and 2 total reconstructions I am still living with horrid pain. When this book was recommened to me, I thought it would give me some answers. It did not. I was put off by how the chronic issue were not addressed. Surgery by an oral surgeon was not discussed. In my area of the country, dentists do not deal with TMJ, the oral surgeon is the main MD. Get your facts correct. The book was a waste of money.
