5.0 out of 5 stars.  After one year of using this system...., June 13, 2016
By Marsha
I read this book about a year ago and decided to give Dr. Ellie's system a try. I am in my sixties and could be a poster child for dental nightmares. I have a mouthful of dental fillings, root canals, failed root canals, crowns a plenty and the last straw was a dental implant on a front tooth about a year ago. I can honestly say going to the dentist is traumatic for me. I wanted to wait to do a review until I really gave it a chance to work or not work. So, I'm coming up on my one year anniversary of following this system to the letter and I'm happy to report I have not been to the dentist for any procedures (including cleanings) for the entire year. My good friend is my dental hygienist and she has looked at my teeth and is convinced a cleaning would be a waste of my time and money (even at the loss of income to her!) I honestly don't know what the long term affects of using the 3 rinses twice a day will be, but for me, not having dental issues trumps just about anything. I have recommended this system to my children, so I guess that's the highest review I can give.

Love this book! Very well researched with some very helpful tips how to deal with gum disease, weak teeth, cavities. Dr Ellie Phillips explains very well how to change the chemistry in our mouth.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  This book absolutely sucked!!, March 10, 2016
By Joshua Hanna
This book was horrible. Thought it was a natural book but supported everything the FDA and other corrupt organisations support. Threw it out and bought a book that talks about curing cavities and helping teeth organically.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Contradictions and limited information - don't recommend this book, February 04, 2016
By Leigh P. Nadel
Before reading this book, I had been brushing with Trader Joe's fluoride toothpaste, flossing, and using a dilute hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash. That had been working fairly well for me, though I wanted a routine that was dentist approved.

After reading the book, I found a few contradictions that made me doubt the author's competency and the effectiveness of her system.

On page 131: "There are great differences for teeth between the effects of consuming the natural and dentally beneficial sugar substitute xylitol and xylitol's ugly stepsister, the artificial sugarless sweetener called sorbitol." However, the products listed in her advised routine -- ACT anticavity, Listerine Cool Mint, AND the Crest anticavity toothpaste -- ALL HAVE SORBITOL! OK, what is going on here?!

The Closys mouthwash was fine for me, but the other products in the system were not -- they all had a horrible, fake taste and the Listerine burned my tongue. I was also quite surprised there was no recommendation to floss... even when I used the Closys in my waterpik I still didn't feel right not flossing. I also found it strange there was no mention of brushing the other areas of the mouth like the tongue.

Another thing I didn't like was the recommendation to ingest 6.5 grams or xylitol per day, when xylitol can cause indigestion, gas, bloating and diarrhea... not to mention it's deadly to dogs. If you do use it, you should dissolve it in water then rinse and spit -- there's no need to ingest it for supposed dental benefits. I find it surprising that this wasn't even mentioned as an option.
