Oral cancer is an insidious disease that afflicts over 30,000 new patients annually in the United States and many more in other countries. Despite advances in diagnostic methods, imaging modalities, surgical techniques, and adjuvant therapies, the five-year survival rate for oral cancer patients unfortunately still remains at about fifty percent. This issue is devoted to improving this outcome and improving our understanding of this disease from diagnostic, molecular, perioperative/surgical, and post-treatment standpoints. The articles cover all of these issues as well as the vital areas of pain management and palliative care.
