The treatment of orthodontic patients does not always occur without difficulty. In spite of apparent proper diagnosis and treatment planning and seemingly well-executed orthodontic therapy, unfavorable outcomes occasionally are seen during or at the end of treatment. This volume considers in detail the identification and management of most commonly-observed clinical problems, including root resorption, decalcification and caries, periodontal problems and temporomandibular disorders. The limitations of adult orthodontic treatment and complications associated with orthognathic surgery also are discussed. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and the autotransplantation of teeth also are considered, as are the medico-legal implications of untoward treatment outcomes.
