How the Immune System Works. is not a comprehensive textbook. It’s the book thousands of students have used to help them understand what’s in their big, thick, immunology texts. In this book, Dr. Sompayrac cuts through the jargon and details to reveal, in simple language, the essence of this complex subject. Fifteen easy to follow lectures, featuring the uniquely popular humorous style and engaging analogies developed by Dr Sompayrac, provide an introduction to the ‘bigger picture’, followed by practical discussion on how each of the components interacts with one another. Now featuring full-color diagrams, this book has been rigorously updated for its fourth edition to reflect today’s immunology teaching and includes updated discussion of B and T cell memory, T cell activation, vaccines, immunodeficiency, and cancer. Whether you are completely new to immunology, or require a refresher, How the Immune System Works is an enjoyable way of engaging with the key concepts - you need know nothing of the workings of the immune system to benefit from this book! How the Immune System Works is now accompanied by a FREE enhanced Wiley Desktop Edition - the interactive, digital version of the book - featuring downloadable text and images, highlighting and note taking facilities, book-marking, cross-referencing, in-text searching, and linking to references and glossary terms. It is also available from CourseSmart for instant, online and offline access for studying anytime, anywhere.

Not a primer, for students taking course, September 03, 2016

This is an excellent book but it is not for anyone without knowledge of the immune system. It is for students who are taking courses or have had courses on the subject. The subject matter is advanced. It is short but covers quite a lot.

Perfect Introduction for Medical Students, June 28, 2016

This is a great, simplistic introduction to the often convoluted study of immunology. Perfect for medical students at any stage, including those needing a refresher on the basics. The book also goes into relevant depth with all the details explained in a natural and logical manner. This prevents too much overwhelming information present at many medical schools. Overall a great resource for anyone in the field and interested in immunology.

Eh... It was only ok, June 22, 2016

My Microbiology professor RAVED about this book and suggested we get it to help us out with immunology. Honestly, I wasn't thrilled. She goes extremely into depth, which some people might appreciate, but for a resource book, it was too wordy. I did not find her analogies helpful, either. Overall, I would not recommend unless you need it for class.

Perfect to read at the beginning of the class for ..., May 21, 2016

Used this book for medical school immunology. Perfect to read at the beginning of the class for a good overview and at the end to solidify key points. I used Abbas Basic Immunology to supplement certain areas, but really you could probably get by with just this book.

The clear and simple language helps clear so many basic concepts. I am using the book exactly as the author says in the 'how to use this book' and finding this to be a very good guide. Thank you for writing this book :)
