I am a pain management nurse and have many patients with acute on chronic pain. This is an excellent text! Plenty of useful tools for the practitioner. That said, if a layperson is looking for a self-help book on chronic pain, and said person is not a healthcare professional, it might be a bit boring, or even overwhelming. I recommend this text for practitioners.
