3.0 out of 5 stars.  Collection of previously written articles, the majority of which are free online, March 24, 2014
By Peachbulb
My beef with this book isn't that it's not that it doesn't contain useful information for people interested in myofascial trigger points. My complaint is that it's a collection of articles previously written and published, some of which are outdated.

For instance, one of the chapters is said to be a review of current literature, but it's taken word-for-word from an article written several years before the publication date. It's not unreasonable to expect that the authors would at least update the chapter to take into account cutting edge research done in the last half decade before the chapter was written. But they didn't.

Because it's a collection of previously written articles, you can find a lot of the articles online for free. I was able to find more than half of the chapters online for free. The remaining articles were available at my school library.

Since other reviews have talked about the book's disdain for acupuncture and insistence that dry needling is different (and superior), I'll briefly add my personal experience. *I am neither a physical therapist nor an acupuncturist.* I had both dry needling done by a physical therapist and acupuncture done by an acupuncturist for the same painful problem with my leg. In my experience, they were mostly the same. The same needles were inserted into the same locations in my leg. The main difference is that the acupuncturist put some additional needles in my ear and my hand (ouch!). But otherwise, it was the same. And for what it's worth, neither helped my problem. I'm sure it's helped other people, and maybe it would help me in other situations, but it didn't help me for this problem particularly.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very helpful., August 19, 2013
By Leo Soubbotin
I utilized this book in order to copmlete my inservice report on dry needling and myofascial trigger points and found it to be very thorough on both topics. Vast majority of the negative reviews are written by acupuncurists and judging by the similar grammar mistakes - the same person. Great buy, well worth your money and time.

Informative, well thought out approach to Dry needling. I bought this prior to taking Dr Gerwin's excellent course through Myopain seminars. Recommend both highly!
